Senate All Nighter

with 5 comments

As most of you already know the Cut and Run crowd lost another round in the “Let’s Take Our Ball and Go Home” sweepstakes. While slapping down the I Hate America crowd is one of my favorite pastimes, I have to ask a serious question:

Does anyone really want this smarmy bunch of smiling snapper heads in charge of National Security, The War on Terror, or the well being of our troops in the field?

Just asking,

  2. Mule Fritters.

While I hate to side with Reid et al, we created a debacle in Iraq, while the whole time singing it was just a matter or time, things are going in our direction, they’re on the run now………you know all the phrases.

Those liberal senators may be the only link with the reality we are likely faced in Iraq.

Until the Iraqi’s set up and want to have the freedoms we gave them the possibility of enjoying, we will have failed whether we cut and run today or we stick around for the next several generations.

  3. Check this out:

Even a sissy like Graham says we’re turning the corner.

  4. I hate arguing about this, because there is no right answer.

But I have to ask, if we’re turning the corner, as we have been told since 2003, then how long before the end of the journey? I’m not talking full withdrawl. We’ll forever have some sort of troop level over there. But I’m speaking of something like we keep in Japan or Korea.

The other thing to remember, most conservatives would be jaw boning this war, if the CIC was a democrat. Even if the war had played out and had been executed exactly as it has to this point, the rhetoric from the Limbaugh’s, Hannity’s, Ingrams along with their print brethern and the grass routes would all be talking about how terribly mismanaged this war has been run and that it has become a quagmire. None of the “if you don’t support the President, you don’t support the troops”.

For the past several years, the talk has been we’ve taken the war to them. Better to fight it there than here. Now our intelligence is talking about the possibility of attacks once again in the US. Al-Queda seems to be gaining stregnth instead of being on the run as we’ve been told.

Thankfully, even now when I travel through airports and service men and women come through, they are still widely applauded and treated well.

We were somewhat warned that the fall of Saddam would probably cause the collapse of Iraq during Desert Storm. While our agreement was to drive Iraq from Kuwait only, there was discussion of continuing the march to Baghdad. Among the reasons for stopping where we were was the probability of civil war among the factions should Saddam fall. Clearly ,we didn’t heed the information on had from 1991.

Despite the horrors of Saddam and his sons, the Iraqi people seem to be just about as brutal as was he.

IF the Bush Doctrine succeeds, then I will be the first to congratulate him. I don’t think anyone in their right mind sees that as a possibility now. The region was not ready for democracy.

But yes, as the hawks have said, to leave would embolden our enemies. But conversely, to stay does the same. It truly is the Kobayashi Maru.

  5. Del,
I disagree, but I definitely respect your ability to express your opinion.
